2026 NSW GC Gold Brooch (Doubles)

Five of the 10 teams had travelled to Sydney, and we were all treated to a sunny three days. This event brings together a Div 1 and a Div 2 player, with some of the Div 2 players demonstrating high levels of skill.
There was a single block, so there were 9 games to decide the qualifying finals. A third of the block rounds had a 7/6 scoreline indicating hard fought games and the criticality of hoop 13.
The qualifying finals were played as 19 point games and generally went according to handicap levels, with the exception being Jan and Keith Brodie. SF1 of the X knockout was a tough match with Jan and Keith Brodie defeating Aniko and Charlie Osvald 7/6, 5/7 and 7/6. Game 1 of SF2 started quickly for Meradin Peachey and Stephen Burns with a 7/1 win against Sue and Glenn Sellers before completing the match in a tight 7/6 game.
The final was won in two games by Jan and Keith Brodie 7/1 and 7/6. This capped off a fabulous trip for Jan and Keith. Their excellent placement kept other teams under continual pressure, and they combined the finesse of Jan with some great power hitting by Keith.
Liz Friend and Lance Howes had a clear win in the Plate block. In the main block rounds they had four losses by 6/7 indicating tough competition. Sherry Gordon and Robert Batho performed strongly in the main block with wins against the top seeds.
A huge thanks to Terry Abbott as Tournament Referee and all the referees who assisted (Michael Chambers, Douglas Greening, Jane Trousdale, Maria Morton and Carolyn Williams). Thanks also to Sue Sellers for helping address some technical issues on day 2. At the conclusion, Terry commented on the fabulous spirit throughout the whole tournament. Overall, it was a wonderful event and a pleasure to host it.
