2025 NSW GC Open Doubles

Event Report by Tournament Manager, Bob Berry | Chatswood Croquet Club

It was a huge relief that the tournament commenced in fine conditions after heavy rain on the preceding days. Four of the 10 teams had travelled to Sydney and 12 clubs were represented. There was a single block, so 9 games to decide the X and Y knockouts. Many of the block rounds were hard fought and required the full allotted time, which resulted in a late finish for the day 1 schedule - just escaping a push into day 2.

In SF1 of the X knockout Brenda-Lee Peet and Sue Sellers defeated Rosemary Landrebe and Aniko Osvald 7/3 and 7/4. In SF2 Jill Sullivan and Malcolm Powys defeated Rodney Peet and Glenn Sellers 7/2 and  7/4. The SF2 result prevented the Sellers and Peet partners playing each other in the final.  The final was won in two games by Brenda-Lee and Sue 7/2 and 7/4. This capped off a fabulous tournament for Sue and Brenda-Lee, as they lost only one game in the block rounds and none in the finals. Their placement was excellent throughout, despite some tricky lawns, and Sue triggered to a 1 handicap on the final game.

Karen Bisley and Gerda Lambeck won the Y defeating Pauline Markwell and Hunter McPherson 10/6. The whole tournament was played with great camaraderie, strong competition and players helping.

A huge thanks to Steve Miles for being Tournament Manager on day 1 and all the referees (Michael Chambers, Douglas Greening, Michael Chang and Carolyn Williams).
