2025 NSW GC Advantage Doubles
Published Thu 26 Jun 2025
NSW GC Advantage Doubles Tournament was held 25-26 June at Strathfield Croquet Club.
The winners were Maggie and Paul Gerbich, with Ann Clifton and Peter Edson coming second.
It was very encouraging to see such a quick response from GC players who registered for this event. 12 pairs played in two qualifying blocks each of 6 pairs, each block playing a round robin. An 8.00am start with 6 sessions of play each day - full days with the aim of finishing before dark. One game played their final hoops in the dark on Wednesday afternoon with assistance from the club house verandah lights providing 'just enough light' for them to complete the session. A demanding schedule for players and referees. Many thanks to Stephen Bruce (Southern Highlands) and Douglas Greening (Killara) the two referees who did a fabulous job on both days of competition.
This CNSW event was a trial GC Advantage Target Scores System event, 13-point games for all qualifying block and knockout games.
All players started on a score of 0, with different Target Scores based on their handicaps.
The Target scores were shown on the game result slips.
All games had a 1-hour 15-minute time limit and were double-banked.
Cheryl Smith (Strathfield’s computer/scoring wizard), in conjunction with David Stanton, ensured that the Target Scores System was given a full workout.
Congratulations to the winning pair - Maggie & Paul Gerbich (Queanbeyan) and the runners up Ann Clifton and Peter Edsor, also both from Queanbeyan.
As you will see from the photos we finished in daylight on Thursday afternoon, thanks to the co-operation of the players and officials.
Job well done by all who assisted in making this event such a success.
