The AC Gold Singles competition was hosted by Killara Croquet Club on 5-6 May, immediately following the Gold Doubles. After so many rainy days, we were blessed with perfect weather, even the notorious breezes of Regimental Park were restrained, and the lawns were well cut and reasonably paced.
Members of Killara club did us proud, with hospitable morning and afternoon teas and carefully-set hoops, and Maria Morton and Ron Buist refereed with patience and good humour.
The field was just four players, owing to one forced withdrawal, so the format was the same as the Doubles - a round robin followed by a knockout for all the players.
Liz Montague won all three matches in the round robin, while the others fought close matches to take one each. The pattern in the knockout was similar, with Liz emerging the clear winner, having reached 20 or more hoops in every match of the competition.
